For many years, Jim Stevens had hosted a ride every August to celebrate the birthdays of several members of the Southern Indiana Draft Horse and Mule Association whose birthdays were in August. Jim's health has prevented him from hosting this ride over the past couple of years and Eddie Mills has picked up the reins and hosted the August "Birthday Bash" this year at the Tell City Horsemans Club from August 11-14th. People started arriving on Thursday and by Friday morning we had 6 wagons full of riders ready to hit the backroads of Perry County, Indiana. The weather over the entire weekend was perfect with highs in the low 80's(F) and overnight lows in the upper 50's plus we had a full moon. Two of those celebrating August birthdays were Bob Pfeifer (89) and Jim Stevens (84) who both joined us on Friday evening along with their wives Janelle and Sharon. Bob and Janelle came back on Saturday morning to ride with us for another fun day on the road. The Saturday ride had 7 wagons. We visited the "Rabbit Hole" which was the camp of the late Danny Sommers where we had spent many a fun weekend before Danny joined the big wagon train in the sky where we are sure he is entertaining everyone just like he did us. When we returned to camp on Satuday, Eddie prepared a great supper and we all spent a few hours drinking some adult beverages and having some laughs. At the end of the evening, there was only Eddie, his son Brad and Dennis Taylor still hanging around. I had them get together and we recreated a photo from 2015 when they woke me up at midnight to take a photo of the three of them because it was Dennis' 50th birthday. This time we also had Brad's son in the photo. He was only an infant when the original photo had been taken. Thanks to Eddie and his wife Carol for making this years Birthday Bash a really great time for everyone.
